LiderA - Sustainability Evaluation System
Metathesis projects take into account the sustainability assessment system (LiderA) – which guides the building environment through improvement measures that result in more sustainable building projects.

O LiderA, acronym for Lead by the Environment for sustainable construction, is the designation of a Portuguese sustainability assessment system which, through its principles and assessment criteria, allows supporting the search, evaluation and certification of the sustainability of built environments (buildings, urban areas, developments, materials and products) from the design and construction phases to the operation phase.
The system is the result of research, consultancy and project work on sustainability in construction and built environments carried out since 2000, which led to its publication in 2005 and in 2007 to the first certifications.
Main goals of the sustainability evaluation system - LiderA
In summary, the LiderA system provides structure, guidance and advice to efficiently achieve sustainability – whether in design, construction, operation or rehabilitation.
Supporting development
of plans and projects that seek sustainability.
Evaluate and position performance
in the conception, construction and operation phases, in terms of the search for sustainability.
Support management
in the construction and operation phase.
Trademark certification
through verification by an independent assessment.
Distinctive market instrument
for the enterprises and customers that value sustainability.
This assessment is based on a set of six principles of good environmental performance, these being:
Categories of Sustainability Evaluation System
The assessment categorizes performance from G to A (up to A+++).
Level E represents the current (or reference) practice and level A corresponds in many criteria to a performance about 50% higher than level E, with level A+ being a Factor 4 (75% higher than level E), level A++ a Factor 10 (90% higher than level E).
In exceptional cases level A+++ can be assigned, representing a regenerative state.
Having in mind the sustainability of the built environment, METATHESIS projects development and implementation take into account the improvement measures resulting from the application of the sustainability programs of LiderA voluntary certification system.
METATHESIS projects value and try to intervene as much as possible and especially in sustainability programs in the scope of territorial organization, ecological enhancement, ecosystem services, landscape enhancement, passive performance, efficient energy systems, carbon management, weighted water use (taking into account the water efficiency of equipments and systems), local water management, durability of built environments contribution to local food production, management of noise, air emissions and other environmental loads, environmental quality, resilience, active mobility, inclusive spaces, flexibility and complementarity of uses, contribution to community well-being, friendly amenities, low life cycle costs, information management for sustainable performance, maintenance and management for sustainability.
