Living history

Photos taken by the extraordinary photographer Bulhão Pato dated from the beginning of the 20th century.

The property located at Bulhão Pato Street, No. 1 is in the historic center of the city of Almada.

The Largo das Vítimas got its name after a plane crash, during World War I, which took the lives of a group of children who were playing there.

For all these reasons, the property was given enormous respect in the way it was designed.

When Metathesis acquired the property, it had suffered a fire and was in ruins inside, with only the facades saved.

Due to the circumstances of the property’s location, this was a rehabilitation done, almost by hand, in a true craftsman’s work.

From a building that had, in its genesis, four two-bedroom apartments with very small areas, it was transformed into three one-bedroom apartments with mezzanine and generous areas.

This rehabilitation brought young couples to Almada, thus combating the city’s housing degradation.
